Recently to my dismay, I discovered that Chick-fil-A no longer offers Cole Slaw. That delicious, sweet Cole Slaw that I loved to put on my sandwich has been given the pink slip in favor of the more trendy “super food” Kale Salad. I mean, what is kale anyway? Where has it been all our lives?
They do at least put those delicious “Craisins” (dried, sweetened cranberries) in those salads. Wow! Have you checked the sugar content of those things? They would do better to put M&M’s on the salad, but I digress….
I have been thinking about a story I heard of a man with two dogs. He would let people bet against him on which one would win in a dogfight. He always won the bet. When asked how he always knew which dog would win, he simply replied, “The one I feed and care for the most!”
This illustration is a perfect example of the battle we believers have between our flesh and our spirit. Whichever one is fed more will inevitably prevail.
So the “battle of the bulge” that many of us fight is actually a battle between the dogs: “Flesh” and “Spirit.” Far too long, many of us have fed Flesh more, and he’s become quite strong. So I think it’s time for some super food for Spirit! When tempted, Jesus replied to Satan with Scripture. Remember? “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Did you hear that? The Word of God is our “Super Food!”
My Super Food helping this week is: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6).
I encourage you to start shopping for Super Food in God’s Word to help with your journey toward weight loss and fitness. You will discover that His pantry is always well-stocked with what’s good for us!
